The Nice take top spot in the October revolution at Pete Brent’s new marquee which re-opens at the Spinning Disc in the County Arcade in Leeds tonight.

This group which went down so well at the Harrogate Pop Proms recently should have the right recipe for Mr Brent’s first night. Also appearing are White Elephant, singer/guitarist Steve Phillips and Jan Ducs de Grin, plus lots of records and various happenings. Every one is very pleased about the revival of the New Marquee. Thank you, Peter. Also at the Spinning Disc this time on the 24th is Mr Lee Dorsey at present on a lengthy tour of this country. He appears at York Assembly Rooms on Nov 1st. Trend Exclusive.

Harrogate Pop Proms No 2 presents the one and only Bonzo Dog Band on Sunday Dec 7th. The reason for the delay is that the organisers haven’t been able to get a big enough attraction till the 7th as too many are in the States. Other future possibilities for the Proms could be Pink Floyd, Roy Harper and Edgar Broughton.

I had the pleasure of seeing Leeds band Phoenix, at the Jook Joint in the Peel Hotel, Boarlane, last Sunday. By the way, that’s upstairs in the Peel, not downstairs where they play that juke box.

On Thursday night there was this amazing barbecue on Woodhouse Moor complete with a gentleman on horseback, a skeleton, a witch doctor and a piano that was pounded till well after midnight. It would be nice to see this becoming a regular event, perhaps with potatoes and bangers on sale at honest prices for people to cook.

(NB the name Jan Ducs de Grin appears with three different spellings through out these articles. Jan Ducs de Grin, Jan Dukes de Grin, Jan Dukes de Grey. I don’t know which is correct! Hazel.)
